A two-vehicle crash Sunday evening resulted in minor injuries and a citation for a teen driver in Urbana Township.

Troopers from the Ohio State Highway Patrol’s Springfield Post responded to the crash around 5:52 p.m. on March 22 at the intersection of state Route 29 and Three Mile Road.

According to an initial investigation, a 2001 Pontiac Grand Am driven by 17-year-old Logan Edwards of Urbana and a 2022 Honda Civic driven by 22-year-old Rylee Brown of Urbana were both traveling east on state Route 29. Brown was in the process of turning left onto Three Mile Road when Edwards failed to maintain assured clear distance ahead and attempted to swerve to avoid a collision.

The Pontiac struck the rear of the Honda, and both vehicles traveled off the left side of the roadway into a ditch.

Edwards was not injured in the crash. One of his passengers, 19-year-old Mary Kimmel of Urbana, sustained minor injuries. Three other occupants in the Pontiac were not injured. Brown was also uninjured.

Edwards was cited for failure to maintain assured clear distance ahead.

The crash remains under investigation.
