Bellefontaine Police were called about a vehicle being followed early Saturday morning around 2:30.
Deputies observed a Ram pickup truck following closely behind a Kia Soul in the 1000 block of South Main Street. The officers noted the pickup was less than one car length behind the Kia. They also noticed the truck was weaving on the road.
Officers conducted a traffic stop on Jamie Diaz Hernandez of Texas. When asked if he was following the Kia he said he was. When asked the reason for following the vehicle he said, “I go to my house”. Hernandez did admit he was weaving and when asked if he was drunk his response was, “Yes, sir”. When asked how much he had to drink he said, “I drink”.
Officers noticed Hernandez had bloodshot eyes and they were glassy. He was asked to step out of the vehicle and he complied. Officers then observed a plastic cup with ice in the truck. This was later found to contain an alcoholic beverage.
Hernandez agreed to field sobriety tests which he failed.
He was placed under arrest and agreed to submit breath and urine samples. His breath sample came back with a BAC of .231.
Jaime Hernandez was charged with OVI, OVI-Breath greater or equal to .17, Weaving, and Assured Cleared Distance Ahead.
He was lodged in the Logan County Jail.
