After 28 years with the Bellefontaine Police Department, Chief Brandon Standley has retired.

Thursday afternoon law enforcement, city officials, and several citizens flooded the city council chambers in Bellefontaine to say goodbye and good luck to a man who has served the city for nearly three decades.

Standley began his career in 1995 as an officer before he became a detective.  He was promoted to Sergeant in 2003.  In 2011 he took over as Chief after Brad Kunze stepped down.

Looking over his career, Standley is proud of the department’s community outreach and the work they’ve done with the youth in Bellefontaine.

The Chief said he knows they’ve made an impact on lives and saved lives because of the relationship the police department has built with the community.  He feels proud leaving knowing there is a strong foundation for years to come.

Standley is retiring from the Police Department, but not retiring from working.  Starting Monday, April 10, he will start a new career as the Township Administrator for Jerome Township in Union County.  Jerome Township is a booming area located between Marysville and Dublin.

The city of Bellefontaine acknowledged Brandon’s tenure with the department with a commemorative clock (pictured below).

Lt. Chris Marlow is the interim Chief of Police until a permanent chief is hired.  By code, the city must hire from within if someone inside the department, who’s qualified, applies.  There are currently three officers on staff who qualify for the position.  If no one applies from inside the department they will pursue outside candidates.
