Cooking a Thanksgiving meal for family and friends will cost less this year, marking the third consecutive year of price declines.
According to the American Farm Bureau Federation’s 40th annual Thanksgiving dinner survey, the average cost of a classic holiday feast for 10 is $55.18, or roughly $5.52 per person in 2025.
That’s a 5% decrease from 2024, though it doesn’t fully offset the record-high cost of $64.05 seen in 2022.
In Ohio, shoppers found that the average cost for a traditional Thanksgiving meal will be $55.87, while locally it’s $53.14.
The survey included turkey, stuffing, sweet potatoes, rolls, peas, cranberries, a veggie tray, and pumpkin pie with whipped cream, all in quantities sufficient for 10 servings.
Individual item prices in 2025 are (State Average/Local):
- Turkey (16 lb.): $21.50/$20.64
- Cranberries (12 oz.): $2.28/$1.99
- Sweet potatoes (3 lb.): $4.00/$3.99
- Carrots & celery (½ lb. each): $1.36/$1.29
- Green peas (16 oz.): $2.03/$1.39
- Pie shells (2, 9-inch): $3.37/$6.99
- Cube stuffing (14 oz.): $3.71/$2.99
- Dinner rolls (1 dozen): $3.56/$4.49
- Pumpkin pie mix (30 oz.): $4.16/$3.99
- Whole milk (1 gallon): $3.73/$2.89
- Whipping cream (½ pint): $1.87/$2.49
Half of the ingredients in the survey declined in price compared to last year, including dinner rolls and stuffing, with low wheat prices helping bring down the costs of flour-based items.
For Ohio families, this marks a welcome relief during the holiday season, allowing more room in the budget for gatherings and traditions.
