There’s a buzz on Main Street: Honey bees relocated in Downtown Bellefontaine

Downtown Bellefontaine has a new kind of buzz this week—thanks to a surprise visit from a colony of honey bees.

A bee box has been placed near a tree on Main Street, right in front of The Syndicate restaurant, to safely relocate the swarm.

Local beekeepers are handling the move, working to guide the bees to a new, more permanent home.

Honey bees are typically very calm unless they feel threatened.

Local beekeeper Mike Woodruff is handling the relocation.

The situation was first reported by Syndicate owner Adam Rammell, who noticed the swarm and contacted Service Safety Director Wes Dodds.

City officials quickly stepped in to make sure the area was secure.

“We’re grateful for Mike’s help—this definitely isn’t something we see every day,” Dodds said.

He added that the bees likely came from a nearby construction site that may have disturbed their original hive.

For now, cones and caution tape have been set up around the area to keep both the bees and passersby safe.

City officials are asking people to give the bees some space while they’re being moved.

The relocation process is expected to wrap up soon—but in the meantime, keep an eye out and walk carefully near The Syndicate.

The bees are just visiting.
