Washington Township Board of Trustees voted unanimously on Monday to appoint current Interim Chief of Police Michael Thompson as the Washington Township Police Department’s next Chief of Police.

“I would like to thank the Washington Township Board of Trustees for the opportunity and I look forward to serving the residents of Washington Township alongside them as their Chief of Police,” said Chief Thompson. “I would also like to thank my wife and children for their support. My wife and I are grateful to raise our children in the Indian Lake community.

“I am grateful for the opportunity and look forward to continuing the great work former Chief of Police Rick Core has done here. We have an excellent group of officers and my goal is to provide them with all of the tools they need to continue to be successful. We will continue to take an aggressive approach to the drug issues that face our community. The safety of the staff and students at Indian Lake Schools will continue to be a high priority of our department. I plan to grow on our already successful community relations efforts and plan to introduce more community relations events in the near future.

“Many people have asked me if I will keep K9 Bruno upon being promoted to Chief of Police. The answer is yes. I will continue to have K9 Bruno as my partner until his retirement.”
