Continuing Impacts:
- State Route 29: State Route 29 between State Route 245 and Cemetery Road is closed through Friday, September 12, while crews replace a culvert.
- Detour: State Route 29 West → State Route 235 South → U.S. 36 East → State Route 560 North
- U.S. 68: Lane restrictions continue between U.S. 36 and the Logan/Champaign County line, with traffic reduced to a single lane intermittently from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. through October. Flaggers will maintain traffic as crews repave the roadway.
Motorists are encouraged to drive cautiously through work zones, follow detours, and allow extra travel time.
According to the city of Urbana, starting Tuesday, crews will begin work on the city’s 2025 Asphalt Program. The project is valued at $516,731.30 and is expected to be completed by October 17, weather permitting.
This year’s paving work will focus on the southwest part of the city, with the following streets scheduled for resurfacing:
W. Broadway Street (west of S. High Street)
Eichelberger Drive
S. Walnut Street (from W. Broadway to W. Powell)
S. Walnut Street (from W. Reynolds to Miami)
W. Water Street (between S. Main and S. Walnut)
Hovey Street (between S. Main and S. High)
College Street (west of S. High)
S. Russell Street (from College to Miami)
Abbey Lane (between S. High and Dewey)
College Way (between Dewey and S. Edgewood)
Important Reminders for Residents and Drivers:
- Parking restrictions will be clearly posted in work areas. Vehicles parked in violation will be towed.
- Flaggers will be on site to help manage traffic and keep the area safe.
- Please drive with caution and follow all signs and directions from crews.
Separately, the Ohio Department of Transportation (ODOT) has contracted the John R. Jurgensen Company to resurface North Main Street, from Washington Avenue/Gwynne Street to the city’s northern limits. That project is expected to wrap up by October 15 and includes updated striping and signage to improve safety.
