A routine traffic stop late Thursday night led to the arrest of two men and the discovery of illegal drugs in their vehicle.

Just before midnight, Logan County Sheriff Deputies noticed a truck with a loud exhaust while driving east on US 33 near County Road 57.

When law enforcement stopped the truck, the driver, William Scarberry, 50, of Columbus, admitted he didn’t have a driver’s license and said he had a warrant for his arrest for child support.

His passenger, Jimmy Decker, 38, of Columbus, also didn’t have a valid license.

When asked if there was anything illegal in the truck, Decker replied, “Not that I’m aware of,” which raised suspicion.

Decker then admitted that there were syringes in his backpack, which he said were used for drug use.

Scarberry also told a deputy there was “hard” in a cigarette pack, later identifying it as crack cocaine.

A search of the truck turned up crack cocaine, methamphetamine, and drug paraphernalia, including used syringes and pipes with drug residue.

Both Scarberry and Decker were arrested.

Scarberry was charged with possessing crack cocaine and was also cited for driving with a suspended license.

Decker was arrested for methamphetamine possession.

The drugs weighed 1.42 grams of crack cocaine and 2.65 grams of methamphetamine.
