Early Thursday morning, deputies from the Logan County Sheriff’s Office arrested a man on drug-related charges after a routine traffic stop.

While on patrol, deputies saw a vehicle traveling westbound on State Route 235 in Lakeview.

The vehicle was seen without a visible license plate and was drifting within its lane.

Deputies initiated a traffic stop and made contact with the driver, later identified as 54-year-old Kevin Engle of Urbana.

Upon approaching the vehicle, deputies noticed Engle moving around inside and noted that he appeared unusually alert, sweaty, and nervous.

A check revealed that Engle was driving with a suspended license.

Engle was asked to step out of the vehicle while K9 Pyro conducted a sniff of the vehicle.

Pyro alerted to the front passenger side, prompting deputies to search the vehicle.

During the search, they discovered a bag containing a crystalline substance and a glass pipe with residue.

The substance field-tested positive for methamphetamine, weighing approximately 4 grams.

Engle was arrested and transported to the Logan County Jail.

He now faces charges of possession of methamphetamine and possession of drug paraphernalia.
