A Lakeview man was arrested Monday afternoon after being pulled over for speeding, and was found to be impaired and in possession of a loaded firearm.

According to a report from the Logan County Sheriff’s Office, just before 3:30 PM, a deputy was patrolling State Route 235 when he observed a red truck traveling at a high rate of speed.

Radar confirmed the vehicle was going 55 mph in the 45 mph zone.

The deputy initiated a traffic stop, and the driver pulled into the C & S Farm Market.

The driver, identified as James Harrod, 66, was argumentative and questioned the reason for the stop.

While speaking with Harrod, deputies noticed several signs of impairment.

Harrod admitted to drinking “a few beers,” saying his last drink was about an hour before.

Deputies found an empty beer can, that was cold to the touch, inside the vehicle’s center console.

Harrod also said he had firearms in the vehicle.

A search following his arrest turned up a loaded Smith & Wesson .380 Bodyguard handgun in the center console with a round in the chamber.

Harrod was placed under arrest and lodged in the Logan County Jail where he is facing charges of improperly handling a firearm in a motor vehicle, operating a vehicle under the influence of alcohol or drugs, and speed.
