Late Friday night, a CSX train engine caught fire, prompting emergency evacuations and a hazmat response in downtown Bellefontaine.
The northbound locomotive caught fire just before 10 PM near the Chillicothe Avenue and Elm Street crossing.
According to reports, flames were spotted coming from its exhaust.
Bellefontaine firefighters responded quickly and had the fire under control shortly after arriving.
Out of precaution, nearby businesses—including the Fraternal Order of Eagles and Roundhouse Depot Brewing Co.—were cleared out by first responders.
Hazmat crews from Logan County identified that a clear liquid was leaking from the train engine and said the substance didn’t appear to pose any danger.
No injuries were reported.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
