A Troy man was arrested for operating a vehicle under the influence Wednesday afternoon after a traffic stop in Washington Township.
According to the Washington Township Police Department, officers stopped 57-year-old Sam Helmick at the intersection of State Route 708 and State Route 235 just before 3:00 PM for a stop sign violation.
When they approached the vehicle, officers noted Helmick showed several signs of impairment.
He allegedly refused to exit the vehicle, and officers had to escort him out.
Once outside, he also refused to perform field sobriety tests.
A search of the vehicle revealed an open container of alcohol.
Helmick was taken into custody and transported to the Logan County Jail, where he refused to take a breath test.
He was charged with operating a vehicle under the influence and a stop sign violation.
Helmick was later released to a sober driver.
