Two people were injured Saturday morning after a vehicle left the roadway and struck a utility pole in Mechanicsburg.

According to the Ohio State Highway Patrol, the crash happened around 8:10 a.m. on August 15 on State Route 4, just north of mile marker 8 in Goshen Township.

The preliminary investigation found that a 2019 Nissan Rogue operated by 38-year-old Petermann Andris of Springfield and a 2018 Ford Explorer operated by 31-year-old Kourtnie Shockey of Marion were traveling southwest on State Route 4.

The Nissan traveled off the right side of the roadway and struck a utility pole. The impact caused the pole to fall into the roadway, where it struck the Ford Explorer.

Andris was transported by ground ambulance to Springfield Regional Medical Center with minor injuries. His passenger, 21-year-old Juvena Elysee of Tampa, Florida, was also transported to Springfield Regional Medical Center with minor injuries.

Shockey and her passenger, 35-year-old Shawna Ball of Marion, were not injured.

The Patrol determined Andris was at fault for the crash. He was cited for failure to maintain reasonable control of a motor vehicle.

The crash remains under investigation by the Springfield Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol.
