A tragic two-vehicle crash late Saturday night claimed the lives of two people and left two others injured in Champaign County.
According to the Ohio State Highway Patrol, the collision happened just before 11 PM in the 800 block of East County Line Road.
The two vehicles, traveling in opposite directions, collided head-on under circumstances still under investigation.
Robert Thomas, 20, of Urbana, and his passenger, Megan Branam, 26, of Springfield, were pronounced dead at the scene.
A third occupant in their vehicle sustained serious injuries and was airlifted by medical helicopter to Miami Valley Hospital.
The driver of the second vehicle was transported to Springfield Regional Medical Center with injuries described as non-life-threatening.
Authorities have not yet determined the cause of the crash, but speed and impaired driving are being considered as possible factors.
The Ohio State Highway Patrol is leading the investigation.
Assisting at the scene were the Champaign County Sheriff’s Office, Urbana Township EMS, Moorefield Township EMS, and Dan’s Towing and Recovery.
East County Line Road was closed for several hours during the on-scene investigation.
