A two-vehicle crash involving two semi-trucks was reported Tuesday morning on U.S. 36 in Johnson Township near St. Paris.
The crash happened around 9:08 a.m. on U.S. 36 between State Route 235 and North Elm Tree Road.
According to a report from the Champaign County Sheriff’s Office, 71-year-old Robert Barhorst of Piqua was traveling eastbound in a 2017 Kenworth T880 when his truck went left of center.
At the same time, 21-year-old Matthew Osting of Troy was traveling westbound in a 2007 Freightliner Cascadia.
Osting swerved off the roadway to avoid Barhorst’s truck.
The Freightliner overturned and came to rest on its side. Osting was hauling grain at the time, which spilled across the roadway following the crash.
U.S. 36 between State Route 235 and North Elm Tree Road was shut down for several hours while crews worked to clear the scene. Cleanup is expected to take some time.
JSP Fire was also on scene and assisted with handling the crash.
Neither driver was injured in the crash.
Barhorst was charged in connection with the incident.
