Troopers from the Ohio State Highway Patrol responded to two crashes in Champaign County on April 12, both resulting in minor injuries.
The first crash occurred just before 11 a.m. at the intersection of State Route 55 and Valley Pike in Mad River Township. According to a preliminary investigation, a 2022 Chevrolet Blazer driven by Jessica Ike, 34, of Sidney, was traveling north on Valley Pike when she failed to stop at a posted stop sign at State Route 55. At the same time, a 2016 Honda CR-V driven by Cynamyn Clem, 44, of Urbana, was traveling west on State Route 55.
The Chevrolet entered the intersection and struck the Honda on the side. Following the collision, the Honda traveled off the right side of the roadway, struck a sign and a ditch, and overturned. The Chevrolet also continued off the right side of the roadway and struck a ditch.
Ike was transported by ground ambulance to Springfield Regional Medical Center with minor injuries. She was cited for a right-of-way violation involving a stop sign and is considered at fault for the crash. Clem was treated at the scene for minor injuries.
Later that afternoon at approximately 3:51 p.m., troopers were called to a second crash on Runkle Road, just east of State Route 235 in Jackson Township. Investigators say a 2008 Harley-Davidson Dyna Fat Bob motorcycle, operated by Rickey Dennis, 32, of Dayton, was traveling eastbound when he failed to maintain control.
The motorcycle traveled off the right side of the roadway, struck a culvert, and overturned. Dennis was thrown from the motorcycle during the crash.
He was treated at the scene for minor injuries and was cited for failure to maintain reasonable control of a motor vehicle.
Both crashes remain under investigation by the Ohio State Highway Patrol.
