Tuesday Bellefontaine Police submitted a report that last Wednesday, Dan Tynan, 61, of Zanesfield, was arrested for operating a vehicle under the influence (OVI) after being reported by his coworkers for suspected intoxication.
Shortly after noon, officers were dispatched to North Main Street and US 33 after receiving a call about a red Jeep driven by Tynan, who had reportedly left work in Russells Point while intoxicated. Russells Point Police Chief, Joe Freyhof had already stopped Tynan’s vehicle when Bellefontaine officers arrived on the scene.
Upon speaking with Tynan, officers noted the smell of alcoholic beverages on his breath, and he admitted he had been drinking whiskey the previous evening, with his last drink at around 8:00 PM.
Tynan agreed to perform field sobriety tests, which he failed.
When asked to rate his level of intoxication on a scale of 0-10, Tynan said he was a “4” and admitted he should have been at home instead of driving. He later changed his story about his drinking, initially claiming to have had three or four drinks, then stating his last drink was at 9:00 PM.
Tynan was placed under arrest for OVI. He was read his Miranda rights and declined to take a breath test. Tynan did agree to provide a urine sample, which was collected and sent to the Ohio State Highway Patrol lab for testing.
He was issued a citation for OVI and released to a sober driver.
