Deputies from the Union County Sheriff’s Office used a drone to track and apprehend a wanted felon in Plain City on Tuesday morning.
According to authorities, around 7:30 AM, deputies attempted to serve an arrest warrant at a business on the 14000 block of Adams Road.
The suspect, identified as Jack Fox, of Bellefontaine, was wanted on a fifth-degree felony charge of possession of fentanyl-related compounds.
When deputies approached, Fox fled on foot and tried to hide in a nearby wooded area.
A certified drone operator on scene deployed a recently acquired DJI M4TD drone, which had been purchased using funds raised during the Union County Sheriff’s Office Annual Golf Outing and was put into service on March 11th.
The drone was launched within about two minutes of learning Fox had fled.
Deputies were able to track his movements continuously, and Fox was taken into custody roughly seven minutes later — about twelve minutes after he initially fled.
Fox is being held at the Tri-County Jail on the outstanding felony warrant, with no bond.
He also faces a charge of obstructing official business.
Fox will appear in the Marysville Municipal Court on Wednesday morning.
