Trying to figure out how to spend more than one million dollars that people have donated is no light task.
And doing that while being accountable, honest, and fair is not for the faint of heart.
Dave Bezusko, Executive Director of the United Way of Logan County, and his board are doing just that.
I had a chance to sit down with Bezusko and ask about the Indian Lake Tornado Relief Funds and how those are being distributed.
Since Wednesday, April 10, their team of caseworkers has met with 189 households who made appointments for assistance through the Tornado Relief Fund.
- $283,343.09 has been distributed to help 116 households (260 tornado victims)
- 73 cases are in process, awaiting decisions or verifications from applicants
- 102 additional households have appointments next week

- 68 Home Insurance Deductibles – $85,694.86
- 32 Home Repairs – $66,311.50
- 22 Rents for new or existing homes – $31,731.03
- 12 Security Deposits for new homes – $20,120.00
- 9 Down payments for New Autos – $18,800.53
- 15 Auto Insurance Deductibles – $12,750.00
- 10 Auto Loan payments – $12,305.65
- 10 Auto Repairs – $9,599.05
- 8 Mortgage payments – $4,004.96
- 5 Hotel Stays – $2,745.41
- 4 Utility Bills – $1,325.69
- 2 Student / Youth Participation Fees – $656.15
- 3 Pet Cares – $469.93
- 10 Other items, such as storage, moving expenses, generators, etc. – $16,578.33
