The Urbana City Council approved in a regular meeting on Tuesday what is being called the Northeast Area Plan.

The plan is being used to determine future development of areas of the city, and just outside the city, as it currently sits.

The plan will lead to new developments as well as lay out streets and roads for future use.

City Administrator Kerry Brugger said the plan is simply that,

“A plan to help guide how we would like to lay out the new developments should they come along.”

According to Brugger, the city approved similar plans in the past to help guide developments in other sections of the city.

The council approved the plan with a unanimous vote.

They plan to meet next in a regular session on July 15th at 6:00 PM in the City Municipal Building.
