The Urbana City Council met Tuesday night to listen to the final reading of several resolutions that would establish the pay ranges of city employees, fire and police chiefs, and their assistants. All were approved unanimously.

Also discussed was curb and sidewalk repair on North Main Street which would cost the city $90,000. While the price may be higher than expected, council members approved the resolution to move forward with the hopes of lowering the cost as things progress.

The Council approved a payment of more than $51,000 to the Terran Corporation for water testing in the landfill area as part of the Landfill Recovery Project. The council talked about the progress of the landfill and its improvement over recent years. They report there are 7 homeowner wells currently being tested for arsenic poisoning potentially from the landfill. It is the goal of the semi-annual testing to show that arsenic is naturally in the groundwater and not created by the landfill. Public Works Superintendant Chad Hall explains the status of the Landfill Recovery Project.

The council will meet again on Tuesday, March 4.
