The Urbana City Council held a public hearing on Tuesday in the City Municipal Building Council Chambers to consider approving and adopting the Urbana Northeast Area Plan as an official planning guide and policy of the City of Urbana.

The council will hear the proposal one more time next month before casting votes to approve the ordinance.
Following the public hearing, the City Council discussed the appointment of Matthew Wellbaum as Director of Finance for the City of Urbana and determined the compensation for the position.
Current Director of Finance Chris Boettcher is retiring at the end of June, having served the city for 33 years, the past 11 as Finance Director.
Mayor Bill Bean had plenty of good to say about the incoming Director of Finance.
Wellbaum will officially begin his duties on June 30, 2025.
The council will meet again in regular session on Tuesday, July 1, 2025.
