The Urbana City Council met Tuesday night to discuss the salaries of several civil servants and approve purchases to benefit the city.

The Council authorized a blanket purchase order list for 2025. All blanket purchase order amounts are in the 2025 budget.

They also authorized a purchase order not to exceed $189,900.00 for the city’s share of improvements on U.S. 68 to be completed by ODOT through the Urban Resurfacing Program.

The amount includes a 20% contingency based on the estimated share, $158,252.00, requested by ODOT before bidding.

This expense will be charged to the Capital Improvement Fund and is in the 2025 budget.

In a third act for the night, the City Council authorized a purchase order to Stantec Consulting Services, Inc. for $50,380.00 for engineering services for the proposed FAA AIG FY2025 project at Urbana Grimes Airport for the replacement of the Rotating Beacon and Tower, per the Engineering Services Agreement dated January 6, 2025.

This expense will be charged to the appropriate FAA Grants and the Airport Fund and is in the 2025 Budget.

The Council heard several first readings for ordinances that would establish the salaries and benefits for Urbana’s Fire Chief, Assistant Fire Chief, Police Chief, Lieutenant, and Central Staff employees for the city.

Changes in these were mainly to align with other establishments.

Three other ordinances were read for the first time to fix the salaries and benefits of Directors of Administration, Finance, and Law.

These ordinances, when approved, will be backdated to January 1, 2025, and remain effective through 2028.

Two resolutions were passed during the meeting.

Resolution 2602-25 confirmed the reappointment of Brian Baltimore and Zac Fiely to the Salary Commission.

Resolution 2705-25 authorized the final approval between the City of Urbana, Champaign County, Ohio, and the Ohio Department of Transportation for pavement planing and resurfacing of United States Route 68 from Gwynne Street/Washington Avenue to the Champaign/Logan County Line.

Both resolutions were passed unanimously.

The council will meet next on Tuesday, February 4, 2025.
