The Urbana City Council met in regular session on Tuesday evening.

In the first of three readings, the main ordinance discussed highlighted the City of Urbana Opioid Settlement Relief Grant Program. This comes in conjunction with a previous motion to participate in the national Purdue opioid settlement in a previous meeting and a resolution that passed during the meeting on Tuesday to participate in the Secondary Manufacturers settlements and pursue the OneOhio Memorandum of Understanding.

Director of Law Mark Feinstein explains how the settlements work.

The council also announced a new member would be joining the team of directors. Spencer Mitchell will be the Director of Administration, replacing Kerry Brugger, effective Monday, September 8.

Mitchell has served as the Village Administrator of St. Paris since October 2018, overseeing the daily operations and long-term planning for the Water, Wastewater, and Street Departments. A Graham High School graduate and former fleet manager, he is committed to improving local services and making a positive impact on Champaign County.

The council’s next meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, September 16.
