Tuesday morning, the Urbana FFA Chapter hosted a Meals of Hope food packing event, bringing together 100 volunteers to prepare more than 35,000 shelf-stable servings of food for families in need across Champaign County.

The event, held at Urbana High School, was the result of months of planning and fundraising after FFA members were inspired during the Washington Leadership Conference in Washington, D.C.

Urbana FFA President, Sam Wilhelm talks about the event:

With the help of local sponsors and community support, the chapter raised around $13,000 needed to bring the initiative to life.

In just two hours, students, staff, and community members worked side by side to pack the meals, which will be distributed by Champaign County food banks free of charge.

The meals are shelf-stable and designed to support those facing food insecurity throughout the area.
