Wednesday, the Urbana Lions Club hosted Cheryl Ogden, Executive Director of the Champaign County Historical Society and Museum, at their regular meeting.

Ogden spoke about the mission and ongoing efforts of the museum, which has served the community since its founding in 1934.

The Historical Society is dedicated to collecting, preserving, and interpreting artifacts that tell the story of Champaign County’s rich history.

Ogden emphasized the importance of keeping these stories alive for future generations.

In recent years, the museum has undergone major renovations.

After receiving two $300,000 grants, the focus shifted toward enhancing exhibit space.

Since the first phase began in 2020, significant updates have been made, including new windows, exhibit cases, workspaces, and carpeting.

Ogden talks more about the renovations:

Upcoming events include a poetry and music program by John Booth on July 20th at 2 p.m., and the museum’s popular Octoberfest, scheduled for the first Sunday in October.

A museum crawl event is also in the works for October 18th.

Ogden left Lions Club members with a museum brochure and encouraged everyone to visit and support the work being done to preserve local history.
