An Urbana man was arrested on the night of December 19, 2025, after a traffic stop in the city led to an OVI charge.
According to the Urbana Police Division, an officer on patrol around 11:41 p.m. noticed a black SUV fail to use a turn signal and then drive straight through an intersection from a turn lane. The vehicle was stopped a short time later after another turn signal violation.
The driver was identified as Omar Richard Malcolm Jr., who police say was driving with a suspended license. The officer reported smelling alcohol and marijuana and noted the vehicle’s window tint was darker than allowed.
Malcolm was asked to step out of the vehicle and perform field sobriety tests. Police say he showed signs of impairment, and a portable breath test registered 0.107.
He was arrested and taken to the Urbana Police Division before being released to a sober driver.
Malcolm was charged with operating a vehicle under the influence, driving under a non-compliance suspension, and driving in marked lanes. The case will be addressed in court at a later date.
