According to the Champaign County Sheriff’s Office, deputies served a search warrant late last week at a home on Beech Avenue in Urbana.

The warrant was connected to an indictment for 39-year-old James Parson.

When deputies entered the home, they found a baby lying on a mattress on the floor.

Deputies also saw drug paraphernalia on the kitchen table, including a meth pipe, a glass piece with white powder residue, a razor blade, and a torch-style lighter — suggesting that drug use was ongoing in the residence.

Several firearms were also found, including a sawed-off 12-gauge shotgun.

Deputies called the infant’s mother to pick up the child.

The Sheriff’s Office says Parson, as the parent, created a substantial risk to the child’s health and safety by using meth and being involved in drug trafficking in the home.

Parson was booked into the Tri-County Jail on three counts of drug trafficking.

Officials say additional charges are expected once the case goes before the Grand Jury.
