A 47-year-old Urbana man faces charges after a traffic stop Saturday evening in the 100 block of North Main Street.

According to the Urbana Police Division report, an officer stopped Jeremy Lee Rich after discovering the license plate on the Nissan Frontier he was driving was expired and registered to a different vehicle.

During the stop, officers reported smelling a strong odor of alcohol and observing an open container of alcohol inside the vehicle. Rich declined standardized field sobriety tests but agreed to a breath test, which registered .151.

Rich was placed under arrest for OVI and transported to the Urbana Police Division, where he submitted to another breath test that registered .142.

Police said Rich later told officers he had consumed a 12-pack and slept for four hours.

Rich was charged with OVI, fictitious registration, and open container prohibited. He was later released to a sober driver.
