Many events are planned for Independence Day in Urbana.

On Friday, the Urbana Rotary Club is hosting a Chicken BBQ dinner at the Grimes Field hangar from 3:30 to 7:30 pm.

You can enjoy the Champaign County 27th Annual Firecracker Car, Truck, and Bike Show from 8:00 to 3:30 pm on North Main Street in Urbana.

Registration opens at 8 am with a $15 registration fee per vehicle.

Spectators are welcome, and donations are appreciated.

All proceeds from the show go to charity.

More than 70 trophies are up for grabs, including the Driver’s Pot and Judge’s favorite, but you must be present to win.

There are also door prizes and a 50/50 drawing for a Blackstone Griddle and a Kobalt Toolbox.

The fun continues on Saturday, July 5th, at Grimes Field Airport.

Airport Manager, Drake Huffman, explains.

Activities include live music by Victorious KayBirds, food trucks, craft vendors, inflatables, face painting, axe throwing, airplane displays, a fire truck display, and more.

You are invited to meet your local Care Flight pilots at the airport.

The helicopter viewing is from 2 to 4 pm and again from 8 to 10:00 p.m.

This year’s fireworks are presented by the Rotary Club and Community Members.

They begin at dusk.

If you’re watching the fireworks, be sure to tune into Skyfire Urbana on 106.9 The Bull during the show.

It will be a synchronized soundtrack to the fireworks.

Have a happy and safe 4th of July!
