The Urbana City School District Board of Education will hold a special meeting on Thursday at 5:30 p.m. at Urbana High School, located at 500 Washington Avenue.
The main item on the agenda is consideration of a resolution to propose an annual income tax levy for school district purposes.
If approved, the board will move forward with submitting the levy for voter consideration.
On July 23rd, Urbana City Schools began moving toward the possibility of a 0.75% income tax levy.
After a 90-minute discussion, the board took its first step by advancing a resolution that declares the need to raise $2,882,636 annually for school purposes.
The proposed levy would appear on the November ballot, ahead of the August 6 deadline to file with the board of elections.
If approved by voters, the additional income tax would be collected over a five-year period, beginning January 1, 2026.
The resolution applies to the school district income of individuals and estates.
More details and public discussion are expected during the July 31 special meeting.
