An Urbana school was placed on lockdown Tuesday morning after suspects involved in a police chase drove through the school’s property.
The chase began earlier in the morning in Clark County.
It continued north along US 68 into Champaign County before the suspect vehicle went off the road and through grass near Urbana City’s elementary and junior high schools.
As a precaution, Superintendent Charles Thiel confirmed that the school went into lockdown for approximately 40 minutes while authorities investigated the situation.
The lockdown was lifted after the suspects were in police custody.
According to reports, the vehicle involved in the pursuit had been stolen near Wittenberg.
The incident is part of a joint investigation involving four law enforcement agencies.
