Urbana schools, Champaign board of DD levies fail in May election

Voters in Champaign County turned out Tuesday for the 2026 primary election, with 5,994 ballots cast for an overall turnout of 22.90 percent, according to unofficial results from all 29 precincts.

Along with selecting party nominees for state and local races, voters rejected two closely watched local tax issues, including the Urbana City School District’s one percent income tax proposal and the Champaign County Board of Developmental Disabilities’ additional tax levy.

Several other local measures were also decided, including successful levies in Christiansburg for police services and in Concord Township for fire and EMS funding.
