Last week at the Commodity Classic Convention, U.S. Agriculture Secretary Brooke L. Rollins unveiled “One Farmer, One File”, a new initiative designed to make USDA services easier and faster for farmers.

The program creates a single, unified record for each farmer that follows them across USDA programs, reducing paperwork, saving time, and improving efficiency.

It involves key agencies such as the Farm Service Agency (FSA), Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS), and Risk Management Agency (RMA).

“Every day at USDA, our focus is on making life easier, more profitable, and more rewarding for the American farmer,” Rollins said. The system began development in 2025, will see major updates in 2026, and is expected to be fully completed by 2028.

The initiative is part of a broader effort to streamline programs, cut red tape, and modernize outdated systems.

In addition to “One Farmer, One File,” USDA is using tools like Login.gov to speed payments and simplify conservation program applications.
