Bellefontaine Middle School held its annual spelling bee Wednesday afternoon.
31 students in grades 6-8 competed in the bee, which was held in the library.
In the 20th round, eighth-grader Blakely Vollrath correctly spelled “ocelot” to become the champion.
Classmate Holland Hower was runner-up.
Both students have qualified for the Logan County Spelling Bee at the Holland Theatre on January 14th at 6 p.m.
Vollrath will also take an online spelling and vocabulary test to advance toward the Scripps National Spelling Bee.
Vollrath is the daughter of Ben & Jacey Vollrath.
Hower is the daughter of Julia Hower & Jason Hower.
Lindy Martin was the moderator at BMS.
Stephanie Fissel and Angie Horvath were the judges.
