Voters approve State Issue 2

Ohio voters have given the green light to State Issue 2, a $2.5 billion infrastructure plan that will fund road, bridge, and public facility upgrades over the next 10 years — all without raising taxes.

While not all votes are officially in, the results clearly favor passage.

The measure renews the Ohio Capital Improvement Program, originally launched in 1987, and allows the state to borrow up to $250 million a year through bonds.

What makes it popular: the funds will come from existing revenue, not new taxes.

The investment is expected to create around 35,000 construction jobs and bring improvements to all 88 counties across the state.

This is the fourth time Ohioans have voted to extend the program, following previous approvals in 1995, 2005, and 2014.

It was the only statewide issue on the May ballot.
