Jon Watkins of Bellefontaine earned first place in the Division A Humorous Speech Contest in Toastmasters District 40 during a competition held at 11 a.m. Saturday at the Dayton Metro Library.
The contest featured top speakers from clubs across the region who advanced after winning earlier rounds at the club and area levels.
With the win, Watkins advances to compete at the District 40 Humorous Speech Championship at the Toastmasters District 40 Annual Conference in May in Newark, Ohio.
Watkins represents the Hi-Point Toastmasters Club in Bellefontaine, where members meet to develop public speaking and leadership skills through prepared speeches, evaluations, and impromptu speaking exercises.
The Hi-Point Toastmasters Club meets on the second and fourth Tuesdays of each month from 12:00–1:00 p.m. at First Christian Church in Bellefontaine (the church with the copper dome).
Guests are welcome to attend meetings and learn more about the Toastmasters program.
