A section of West Court Street in Urbana will close to traffic beginning Monday, March 16, as crews begin work to replace a more than century-old bridge.

City officials say the 300 block of West Court Street, between North Russell Street and North High Street, will be closed to through traffic starting March 16 for approximately 90 days. The closure will allow crews to replace a structurally deficient bridge over the Town Branch that was originally built in 1916.

The project is being completed by Majors Enterprises, Inc. at a cost of $682,468.

Funding for the bridge replacement is being provided through the Ohio Department of Transportation’s Ohio Bridge Partnership Program, along with Surface Transportation Block Grant funds administered through the Logan-Union-Champaign Regional Planning Commission.

City officials say the closure will remain in place for the duration of construction while the bridge is replaced. Residents with questions about the project can contact the Urbana Engineering Office.
