West Liberty Village Council met for a regular meeting on Monday, June 23rd.

The council covered a range of topics, starting with a discussion with guest speaker Heather Chamberlain, from the West Liberty Business Association.

Heather updated the council on receiving a $2,500 grant from the Logan County Visitors Bureau.

This grant is projected to start the alley project.

This project would include the closure of the alley between Dorcey’s Flower Shop and the Library.

Patio sets, LED lights, an oversized chair, benches, flower arrangements, and a large tic-tac-toe set were mentioned to serve the community from this project.

The council agreed to review a layout plan at the next meeting.

Jayne Griffith, Village Council Member, talks about the proposal:

Next, Police Chief Shane Oelker brought to the council’s attention that an ordinance is needed for records requests.

There are a few pending requests for body camera footage that were from approximately three years ago.

Shane shared that officers are prepared for this weekend by placing a safe zone out during fireworks.

As a result, the north end of Lions Park will be closed for safety.

He also mentioned that quotes for tires on patrol cars are in progress.

Council moved into old business, which included:

  • The surveyor came on October 17th for the police building.
  • Flood insurance was sent to FEMA, and no update yet.
  • Administrator Richard Ford completed an application for FEMA, which was submitted.
  • A civic sign is in progress; the owners will be out to get a look at the site and decide on a location.
  • Liability insurance is in progress for renewal.
  • The following council members needed to run this year: Jayne Griffith, Alyssa Kauffman, Trent Spriggs, and Jeanette Zerkle.

In new business, minutes from June 9th and bills in the amount of $134,978.87 were approved.

The following were also approved:

  • $39,900 for paving Ravin Place to Quality Paving to be paid out of Road Tax Funds.
  • Fireworks for $6,000 and Splash Pad for $18,000 (for water use, repairs, and opening and closing.)

Lastly, the council encouraged residents to come and enjoy the West Liberty Summer Street Market on June 28th, from noon to 10:00 p.m.
