West Liberty citizens lined the streets in an amazing showing of patriotism at the Memorial Day Parade.

The West Liberty Police Department led flag bearers at the start of the parade near the old historic school building. The West Liberty-Salem High School band played “Amazing Grace” as the parade moved through downtown. Various veteran groups, community organizations, and antique vehicles proceeded through town, throwing candy and waving as they passed. The West Liberty Fire Department followed suit while the Macochee Ambulances tailed the line of vehicles.

Following the events, an honorary ceremony was held for those who have lost their lives defending our nation. Decorated veteran and Purple Heart recipient Bill Roberts was recognized. Shelly Kneece, director of the Logan County Veteran Service Commission, spoke and recognized families of several Gold Star recipients and honored all of the heroes who sacrificed themselves for our country.

The West Liberty Memorial Day Parade saw a strong turnout and community engagement as everyone in attendance remembered those who made the ultimate sacrifice for our freedoms.
