Early Sunday morning, just after midnight, Bellefontaine police stopped 30-year-old Matthew Ulmer, of West Liberty, on South Main Street.

Officers saw Ulmer driving a silver GMC SUV well over the 25 mph speed limit.

When they clocked him, he was going 39 mph.

He also drifted across lanes and ran a red light.

When police turned on their lights and sirens, Ulmer kept driving for almost half a mile before finally pulling into a parking lot.

Officers noticed he showed signs of being impaired.

Ulmer admitted he had a shot of bourbon two hours earlier.

Police also found an open beer, marijuana, and a glass pipe in the car.

Ulmer failed field sobriety tests and blew nearly twice the legal limit on a breath test.

He also didn’t have a valid driver’s license and had multiple active warrants, including one from Champaign County.

He was arrested for driving under the influence, driving under suspension, possession of marijuana, and his outstanding warrants.

Ulmer was taken to the Logan/Champaign County line for processing.
