The Marysville Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol is investigating a single-vehicle fatal crash that occurred Saturday afternoon on State Route 287 near the Logan County line in Allen Township, Union County.
Troopers say the crash happened sometime after 3 p.m. when a silver 2007 Kia Sorento, driven by 75-year-old Robert Leon Eubanks of West Liberty, traveled off the left side of the roadway.
The SUV went airborne, struck several trees, and came to rest upside down in a creek bed.
Because the vehicle landed in a ravine surrounded by thick woods, it was barely visible from the road.
A passerby who thought he may have seen something unusual turned around to check and discovered the wreckage.
Eubanks was pronounced dead at the scene by the Union County Coroner.
Investigators say he was not wearing a seat belt.
Allen Township Fire & EMS, the Union County Coroner’s Office, and Kevin’s Towing assisted at the scene.
The crash remains under investigation.
