West Liberty-Salem High School has recognized two outstanding seniors as its Seniors of the Month for September: Akira Whitman and Taran Gregory Logwood.
Both students exemplify leadership, academic excellence, and community involvement.
Akira Whitman, daughter of James and Lana Whitman, is deeply engaged in school activities. She participates in multiple clubs including the National Honor Society, United Way, Student Council, Key Club, and more. Akira’s favorite school memory involves hands-on learning in her anatomy class, where she enjoyed conducting labs under the guidance of Mrs. Neer.
If given the opportunity to be principal for a day, Akira would host a festive movie day for the entire student body, complete with snacks. She draws inspiration from her family and friends, stating, “They encourage me to be a better person and believe in me when I don’t believe in myself.”
Looking ahead, Akira plans to pursue a degree in biomedical sciences with the goal of becoming a dentist.
Taran Gregory Logwood, son of Shawn and Stacey Logwood, is a standout athlete and leader. Serving as captain of both the varsity football and basketball teams, Taran is also a senior class officer and member of several clubs, including Mock Trial and Key Club. His commitment to service is evident through his work with Junior Achievement and the Special Olympics.
Taran’s favorite school memory centers around a thrilling home basketball victory over rival Fairbanks, where the supportive atmosphere created a memorable experience. He hopes to foster a similar spirit by hosting a staff basketball tournament if he were principal for a day.
With aspirations to study pre-law, psychology, or medicine in college, Taran credits his parents for their unwavering support, saying, “They have sacrificed so much time and effort into everything I have desired to do.”
Both Akira and Taran exemplify the spirit of West Liberty-Salem, showcasing dedication to their studies, athletics, and community.
Their achievements serve as an inspiration to their peers as they continue to make the most of their high school experience.
