West Liberty-Salem Elementary students have successfully concluded their annual Kids Heart Challenge, raising $29,662—far exceeding the school’s original goal.
The program, held in partnership with the American Heart Association, supports heart health research and families impacted by heart disease.
The Kids Heart Challenge is designed to teach students about the importance of maintaining a healthy heart through physical activity and healthy lifestyle choices while encouraging service to others.
Throughout the event, students learned about cardiovascular health, the impact of heart disease, and how their efforts can positively affect the lives of others.
Students raised money by promoting the Kids Heart Challenge.
Family and friends could make donations through the American Heart Association’s Kids Heart Challenge website, and each participating student set up a personal website to receive contributions.
Several students were recognized as “Heart Heroes” for individually raising more than $300:
- Flint McNutt
- Ella Wilkins
- Thaddeus Cole
- Drayce Gearheart
- Deagan Wallace
- Lakelynn Roberts
- Lyla Powell
- Lyda Stengel
- Leah Huffman
- Lincoln Sidders
- Winnie Cotrell
- Griffin Kimball
- Nova Burton
School officials credited the success of the challenge to the students’ leadership and enthusiasm, along with strong support from families, staff, and the broader community.
Special appreciation was extended to Mrs. Kim Hollar for organizing and coordinating the event.
