West Mansfield couple charged in theft at local grocery

According to reports from the West Mansfield Police Department, a local couple was arrested after an investigation into thefts at Fields Grocery.

Officers were dispatched on Monday to the store at 139 South Main Street.

The investigation revealed that Jessica Morton, 35, an employee at the store, had been stealing lottery tickets and various merchandise over the course of a month.

Shane Hayes, 34, her boyfriend, was also found to be complicit.

Video surveillance showed Morton selling items to Hayes while only scanning a limited number of items at the register.

Both Morton and Hayes admitted to the thefts during interviews with officers.

The total value of stolen items exceeded $2,300.

On Wednesday, both individuals were lodged in the Logan County Jail and charged with felony theft.
