A man from Ada was arrested late Sunday night after driving his Jeep into a ditch and refusing to cooperate with law enforcement.

Logan County Sheriff Deputies report that the incident happened on County Road 97 in Belle Center.

A witness told dispatch that a vehicle was stuck in the ditch and that the male driver appeared to be intoxicated but claimed he was fine and had someone coming to help.

Upon arrival, deputies noticed a tan Jeep in the ditch, with its driver continuing to spin the tires, causing the vehicle to become more deeply stuck in the mud.

When the driver, Cory Wilkins, 43, of Ada, stepped from the vehicle, he was unsteady, slurred his speech, and used the Jeep to keep his balance.

He initially told deputies that he had pulled into the ditch and was waiting for a friend, but he gave conflicting information about where he had come from and where he was going.

Deputies noted they could smell the odor of alcoholic beverages coming from Wilkins.

He repeatedly refused to submit to field sobriety tests and provide a breath sample.

Deputies also found a small container of marijuana in Wilkins’ pocket, along with a THC vape pen inside the Jeep.

Open alcohol containers and a burnt marijuana cigarette were found in the passenger area of the vehicle.

After being placed under arrest for operating a vehicle while intoxicated, Wilkins became agitated.

Once at the Logan County Jail, Wilkins remained combative and refused to follow commands given by correctional officers.

A physical altercation then ensued, and deputies assisted jail staff in restraining Wilkins and placing him in a restraint chair after he continued to resist.

Wilkins was cited for operating a vehicle while intoxicated, refusal to submit to a breath test, failure to control his vehicle, and menacing.
