A Bellefontaine man faces several charges after resisting arrest and hitting law enforcement officers during an incident Friday evening.
Officers encountered 46-year-old David Williams around 5:50 p.m. in a parking lot near 868 East Sandusky Avenue.
Williams initially approached an officer to report that his ex-girlfriend had drugs in her vehicle.
While speaking with Williams, officers received a separate call reporting a domestic disturbance at his mother’s residence, where Williams was reportedly destroying items inside the home.
Officers instructed Williams to remain in the parking lot while they investigated the disturbance.
Police also learned that an active civil protection order needed to be served on him.
Williams ignored several instructions to stay in the parking lot and walked toward his mother’s apartment.
Two Logan County Sheriff’s deputies arrived to serve the protection order.
Williams reportedly yelled obscenities and repeatedly interrupted the deputies as they attempted to read him the paperwork.
After the deputies handed him the order, he threw it on the ground.
Officers reported smelling alcohol on Williams’ breath.
After a discussion, they attempted to arrest him.
Williams resisted as officers tried to place his hands behind his back and continued struggling as they attempted to restrain him.
During the struggle, an officer used the drive-stun function of a department-issued Taser before officers eventually secured Williams in handcuffs.
Police said Williams kicked an officer in the chest as officers helped him to his feet.
The officer was not seriously injured.
A Logan County sheriff’s deputy was also hit in the ear, where officers later noticed a red mark.
Williams was transported to the Logan County Jail and booked on charges of persistent disorderly conduct, assault on a peace officer, and resisting arrest.
