Bellefontaine police responded Saturday after a 4-year-old boy was reported walking alone in the 400 block of Woodside Place.

Officers searched the area but initially couldn’t find him.

A short time later, the boy was spotted running north toward Wren Street and was safely found.

He was wearing shorts, a long-sleeve shirt, and only one shoe.

Officers learned the boy had been reported missing several times that week by his mother, Susan Carnahan, 40, of 450 Kristina Drive.

Police went to Carnahan’s home, where she was found to be intoxicated and initially refused to cooperate.

Officers had to remove her from the residence before handcuffing her and taking her into custody.

Carnahan was charged with child endangerment, a first-degree misdemeanor, for failing to provide a responsible adult for the boy.

The child was taken temporarily to the Bellefontaine Police Department while officers contacted a family member, who picked him up.

A report has been sent to the Bellefontaine Municipal Court and Logan County Children Services.
