An 18-year-old Ridgeway woman was arrested Saturday morning after her young child was found wandering unsupervised outside their apartment.

According to Bellefontaine Police, officers were dispatched to a home on the 800 block of East Sandusky Avenue shortly after 9:00 AM, when a neighbor reported a child was outside alone.

The neighbor told officers the child had knocked on their door before running inside their apartment.

When officers arrived, they found the child playing on a balcony with the neighbor sitting nearby.

About 10 minutes later, Rachel Parker, the child’s mother, answered the door.

She told police she had only been asleep for about 20 minutes and thought her son had been in bed.

Parker also denied responsibility for the child being outside and said someone may have knocked on the door, prompting the child to leave.

Due to prior concerns with the family, Hardin County Children’s Services was contacted and responded to the scene.

The child (and another child that was found inside the home) were placed in the care of relatives.

Parker was arrested and charged with endangering children and transported to the Logan County Jail.
