On Tuesday, Richard “Woody” Woodruff was sworn in by Judge Kevin Braig for his second term as a Logan County Veteran Service Commissioner.

Each term lasts five years.

Woodruff, a United States Navy veteran, is one of five commissioners overseeing the Logan County Veterans Service Office downtown.

The other commissioners are Jim Culp, Ray Stamm, Russ Strayer, and Tim Shaw.

The County Veterans Service Commission, a five-member board, provides temporary financial and medical assistance to veterans, their spouses, and dependents.

The board also helps veterans access federal, state, and local benefits and entitlements.

Commissioners set policies, approve budgets, oversee the county’s Veterans Service Office, and develop outreach programs to enhance services for veterans.

When a vacancy arises, the county judge sends letters to local veterans’ organizations, inviting them to submit applications.

If more than one veteran applies, the judge interviews candidates before making an appointment.

The commission meets monthly on the third Tuesday at 1 PM at the Veteran Service Office.

Meetings are open to the public.

Judge Braig praised Woodruff, saying, “Mr. Woodruff is being reappointed because he is a caring and reliable person who the Court can count on to assist veterans in Logan County. The Court appreciates that he donates his time to this position and cause.”
